Last Thursday's Retakes: I will correct and enter scores in PowerSchool today

Last week's retakes are graded and in PowerSchool. If you didn't score a 3, I'll pass it back to you now, so you can see what you need to improve in.

This Friday will be another retake day! I want all students to pass with an A, so study and review and practice so you are ready. Papers are on the bottom bookshelf and available in Google Classroom to print.

If you have a deck of playing cards that you can bring tomorrow, bring it! You can use it for a fun activity.

Today you will complete your third of three Renaissance STAR Math assessments (during your 6th grade year).

Please take everything off your desk except for something to write with and your chromebook. Go to Clever > Renaissance Star Math Benchmark

* Before you start, write down your current score: scroll down to the bottom of the Renaissance home page. Click “Get email updates”. Click Progress (upper right corner). Select 'Winter'. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

This is an adaptive test. Everyone has different questions. Sometimes a question will seem difficult (and you've never learned it). Do your best. If needed, guess. The software is trying to figure out your math level.

Don't rush. But don't go slow. Each question is timed: you have at most 3 minutes.

When finished, put your scratch paper (WITH YOUR NAME ON IT) in the basket in the back. You may read (SORA), draw, write, or do another quiet activity. Do not talk.

1. Prepare for tomorrow's retake. To improve your math grade (goals below 3): Find the Practice: In PowerSchool, click your math grade and select "View" for any goal less than 3. Open the linked Google Doc and go to the CYUqs tab. (Alternatively, find the doc under Classwork in Google Classroom). Review and Complete Work: Solve at least 10 problems. Show your thinking, check your answers, and review notes or ask for help if needed. Bring your completed practice tomorrow to trade it for your new test.

2. Play: Find a partner or two, grab a deck of cards and some game sheets, and play Jongers. You may sit on the floor around the room. Please keep your voices to a Level 2, so that the rest of the class is able to prepare.

3. Work on something for another class.

EVERYONE: If you have a watch, phone, or Chromebook, please turn it off and put it in your backpack. Place your backpack in the front or back of the room.

Retaking? You need at your desk: the CYUqs you want to trade, pencils and/or pens, and something to do when finished (book to read, paper to draw or write on, etc.)

NOT retaking? You need something to quiet to work on (NO Chromebooks or other electronics).

Once everyone is setup, I will call you up row by row to trade me for a retake.

This is a quiet testing environment. No talking or communicating in any way.

Tomorrow, be sure to bring your textbooks, Chromebook, charger, and remaining library books. You will be returning them to the library.

If you want to keep your Course 1 Volume 1 and Volume 2 textbooks, you may. If you didn't use them and would like to donate them back to the school, you may return them to my classroom.

Return Chromebooks

Tuesday, May 26th, is the last day to purchase a yearbook. Yearbooks will be sold for $50 in the Account Office starting at 8:30 am until 2:00 pm or until sold out. If paying cash, Exact change only. We except apple pay, check, and card.

Please note that in-person yearbook sales will be extremely limited (20 books left) and will be done on a first come first serve bases. We will not have a wait list. Once yearbooks are sold out, we will not be able to order additional copies.
